Sample Business Plan Steps

Opening a clothing store?

Hello, I am thinking of opening a small clothing boutique (both women and men trendy fashion) I know how the economy is and many people I talked to advise me not to open one right now. I am however, pretty determined to open one within the next 4-6 months.
I wanted to get some info on things I should consider…I have not been in the business however my partner has been for many years and she will be doing all the buying.
1) are there any sample retail store business plans out there
2) how much do I need for a starting capital
3) with the economy the way it is now, are there any stores making profit now?
4) I have looked at few potential retail places for lease and have a location on mind…but not sure If 11K per month for 1300 sq ft is a good price, please advice
5) My understanding of steps is a) business plan b) bank for financing/capital c) look for a store d) order merchandise and get the store ready e) hire help and open store, correct?

Two things jump out at me:

$11,000.00 for 1.300 sq ft? Where is this place?!
Pretty sure that’s top dollar. You’re really going to be under the gun coming up with that every month. Your first and last deposit alone will be $22,000.00!

Capital: do you have any at all? A bank loan, (assuming you can even get one as a new business) shouldn’t be your source of capital.

I have friends who own a boutique such as you described, and even with many years’ experience and a much lower debt load than you’d have, they’re really struggling in this economy.

Good luck if you decide to do this, but it looks to be an uphill climb.

PS: In your planning, don’t forget a business license, seller’s permit (sales tax, if applicable), state and federal employer ID numbers, workmen’s compensation insurance, general liability insurance, and whatever else applies to your industry.
