Creating an Ad Package for Magazine???
We are starting an online womens magazine and we are getting our advertising team together amongst the staff.
Our magazine is for young,urban women in Atlanta and we want to approach local businesses about advertising in our publication.
we are planning to include our professional info sheet, an illustrated view of what benefits we offer as far as advertising go, a price sheet, and a contract. That is about a 4 page packet. What are we missing? And also is there a certain way we should approach these businesses? Should we walk right in and ask for the owner etc with our packages in hand? Email them?
What do you think? We also have our 4 pages in PDF format to be viewed online. None of has advertising backgrounds so any advice would be helpful.Thanks!

Do not email them unless it’s requested. You will be immediately looked on as spammers. Not a good introduction.
The best way to approach the business owners is to pick up the phone and call them for an appointment. You are going to have to go in, and in a face to face sit down show them what you have to offer. Don’t anticipate getting a sale on the first call. You have to work the phones and maybe do several follow-ups.
If someone asks you to send out a package get the information and DON’T send it. They are saying that to get you off the phone. Call them back in a week and see if they “got it”. Wow they didn’t!?!?! Who would have figured. Set up an appointment at that time to personally deliver it to them and talk about what you have to offer. You probably think that is stupid but unless you want to be a mailing house then do it your way.
Remember you are one of a zillion people out there looking to get into someones pocket for ad dollars. Go into this with your eyes open and a lot of heart. Tenacity and hard work can pay off but it ain’t easy. What you’re about to start is a VERY risky venture. Everyone investing in this should understand this from day one.
