Business Plan Ubuntu

business plan ubuntu
If I install UBUNTU vs XP,what will I miss most ? Is there anything maybe taken for granted in XP ?

The thing is I am about to reinstall my windows xp because it’s bogging down, and I want to configure it more efficiantly. But I have been planning on switching to UBUNTU for awhile now. I even have a free copy they sent me in the mail. But the fact of the matter is I am starting a business and have very little time to devote to anything. So if this switch is going to be time consuming forget it.ill do it in a few months when the time is better.

IF it’s mission critical and you have no experience with using Ubuntu, or Linux for that matter, I would recommend not switching. Grab an old PC and test it first.

What will you miss if you switch to Ubuntu?

1) ease of Dual monitor setup
2) games and applications that are specific to Windows
3) hardware detection may be shoddy, especially wireless and certain printer drivers and video cards
4) Installation of software may be limited as not all applications exist in Linux
5) Difficulty in maintaining and administrating your system if you are not familiar with Linux
6) networking and file sharing will be complicated if you do not understand permissions, sharing, and SAMBA

Those are some of the things I can think of. I can say that the learning curve will be a little steep, depending on your usage and purpose. I would not expect you to understand Ubuntu Linux and feel comfortable with it in a day. It will take some time.
