Don’t Be Typical07 Aug

Do you ever find yourself sitting there lost? Hopeless? Your mind shooting complete blanks?  Wanting to be inspired? Face the facts–your thoughts and actions have gotten you nowhere. That is where most typical, uninspired people find themselves. Its true, it happened to me. Luckily, my mentor told me stop being so typical and step up my game.

Believe it or not, it’s actually easier to do something out of the norm than it is to do something typical. In fact, taking chances, or in a sense, the road “less” traveled, can involve much less grunt work than paying your dues for an easy, predictable, secure life.

Millions of people compete for the same exact “grind,” not knowing that the competition exists because everyone’s after it. Most are slaves to  mediocrity, because they can’t think outside of the norm. Not convinced?  Look around you, countless others work day and night to get in and complete the same exact program.  Then, the same pool of grads compete for the same jobs–for what?  To be stuck at entry-level positions or losing neck-and-neck to another person with the same credentials as you. Sound familiar now?

Contrary to belief, there is a small percentage of people that dare to venture out on their own and start their own businesses. These are the people that make headlines–on TV, featured in magazines, blogs, and newsfeeds, and so forth. And their brilliance is a result of their simply taking a chance to skip on the mundane.  These atypical people go out and accomplish things that the typical don’t do–and at times it turns out they end up doing things better. Simply said, it’s easier because there weren’t masses competing for the same goal. All it required was some guts and initiative.

Set your goals higher than others–’it’ may actually be easier to achieve.

Sitting around and:

  • Watching 50 episodes of The Big Idea over and over.
  • Reading 45698 blogs.
  • Reading 56789 books.
  • Taking 28 classes on different subjects.
  • Researching your idea over and over until the opportunity passes by.
  • Listening to 7890 pod casts.

…will get you absolutely nowhere except down on time, money, opportunities and dreams. It is almost like being stuck in that phase where all you are doing is research. Take action now!

Yes, education is important!  Get educated, take what you learn, and apply it to what you do. But, to be successful, you don’t need a degree in Neuroscience or ____________ (insert a degree of your choice).

An excessive push for “education” may make you overwhelmed and even discouraged, because:

  • It becomes an information overload.
  • You are attempting to absorb too much information at once that your brain cannot process nor implement it all.
  • It becomes a norm, and you lose sight of the bigger picture.

Dream big. At the same time, a dream without a goal is just a wish. A wish is something you want handed to you. If you want to make it, every dream you have needs a goal–a pathway towards some results. Here is a simple visual exercise you can do to get your dreams organized.
