How to become a wedding planner?

I am a hair stylist and I love working on hair for special occasions best. I just love to do up-dos. I also loved being a bridesmaid and M.O.H. for my two closet friends and helping them plan their weddings. So I think going into wedding planning on the side would be fun and I would be well suited for it. Only problem is I don’t know any wedding planners and have no clue on how to start or what steps to take. Can anyone give my some good advice or tips to starting my own wedding planning business?

while being a wedding planner is lots of fun, it is also very hard work.

it isn’t just helping to pick out things and put the together for a nice wedding like it is when you are a maid of honor or bride’s maid. you must have a great deal of knowledge or know how to find what you do not know in order to help perfect strangers execute the wedding they want.

you have to have some legal knowledge to be able to help to negotiate contracts, knowledge of marriage laws in your area including those which may pretain to people from other nations.

you need knowledge of other cultures and traditions, and how to set up a proper receiving line, wedding etiquette, proper wording for invitations, and be able to deal with finance or family problems and emergancies.

there are many good online courses available to become accredited in the field which you should look into, plus you may want to apply for some part time work for another even planning company in your area to get some experience. or perhaps a local bridal salon or catering company.

one of the best things you can do to see if you are truly suited for this kind of work is to do the research and provide answers to the many wedding related questions right here on this site. in that way, you can see if people respond to your suggestions or solutions to their problems.
