Business Plan Nail Shop

How do I approach local small businesses about carrying my product?
I’m beginning to start making and selling personalized beaded bracelets. I’m planning on asking local shops and hair/nail salons to carry my products, what would be a good way to approach them to ask?
I’m going to make up a flyer with a sample bracelets and have order forms available for customers to order the personalized bracelets.
Start by thinking from the business’s perspective. Does it actually make sense for them to have a flyer with sample bracelets that are custom ordered, given their current way of doing business? Or is it better / easier for them to have actual bracelets and a display method that they can sell them on the spot. Also think from their perspective of collecting money. Do they get a commission? And how and when, exactly, does the money hit their account? (or do they have to pay you, once they take an order)
When they look at how they get paid, how they display the merchandise, how much work goes into making the sale, how much paperwork for a customized product… then they have to look at these time investments, relative to the other products they sell.
The best place to sell something customized will be online. Second best place is your hair/nail salon, where the front desk usually is not manned and people wander about, occasionally buy a product. Most of these are owner-managed, so they have discretion to add an unusual product to what they sell. A boutique – not so much. They keep 50% of the retail price of the blouses, jewelry, handmade gifts, etc., that they sell. It’s hard to see the customized beaded bracelet being worth the sales agent’s time to get it in the bag.
Think from the business owner’s perspective, and you will result in having (1) the target market, (2) the methodology for their sale that is best, and (3) the optimal communication strategy when approaching them.
Good luck!
