Business Plan Health Care Services

Do managed care companies make money by refusing to provide the services they promise ?

If that is so, it is a small logical step to decide to supply less than optimum medicines.

Reference :”Third, the HMO Act of 1973 fosters a bizarre, perverse, noxious form of “capitalism” in which managed care companies make money by refusing to provide the services they promise. Business, i.e. large corporations and insurance brokers, negotiate with “health care providers” for coverage. The market here is not for care, but for insurance. Low bidders win; annual changes of plans become routine.”

Now, you’re on to something! There is no euthanasia, but there most certainly IS a tendency for ALL insurance companies to not pay for things. Sometimes it is blatant denial of payment/authorization, other times it is underhanded – lost claims, requesting more documentation for approved procedures, payment delays, etc.

Insurance companies are NOT in the business of keeping people healthy. They are in the business of making money.

They screw their subscribers by charging high premiums, deductibles and co-payments, and by limiting available drugs to those on their formulary. They screw doctors by not paying for things that ought to be paid, and creating a bureaucratic nightmare in order to collect what is due.

If this upsets you, DO something about it. Push for insurance reform.
