Disney’s Small World ride originated with the 1964/1965 New York World’s Fair (it was Pepsi’s pavilion.) After the fair closed, the ride was transferred to Disneyland along with three other attractions from the fair that year; Primeval World Diorama, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and the Carousel of Progress.
honestly, small world has been in dire need of an overhaul for the past 10 years or so. many of the effects and decoration pieces inside are worn out and look dirty and tacky. they did something to the lighting and (as of my last trip to the park) you could see puddles on the floor, cords running all over the place, and the ugly bases of the set pieces.
there are hundreds upon hundreds of disney purists, but they can’t say that the ugly, nearly broken-down small world ride won’t be BETTER with a few subtle improvements?
also, the main reason they’re doing any of this is to re-build the flume so the ride doesn’t break down so much and so the boats don’t stick.
